Guarin signs St Etienne deal
Colombian midfielder Freddy Guarin has signed a permanent contract with St Etienne.
Colombian midfielder Freddy Guarin has signed a permanent contract with St Etienne.
The youngster joined Les Verts on loan earlier in the campaign, having spent last season with Boca Juniors in Argentina.
He has scored once in 14 Ligue 1 appearances for St Etienne and has now agreed a four-year contract with the club.
Guarin is delighted to commit his future to Les Verts and is hoping to prove the club's judgement in offering him a long-term deal is not misplaced.
"I am very happy with the extension of my deal at St Etienne because that means that the club is happy with what I have been doing," Guarin told Radio Caracol.
"I had arrived in this team on a loan deal after being at Boca Juniors for some time where I didn't have many chances to play in the Premier Division team.
"I hope to keep on improving, so I can write my personal career story in this European team."
Meanwhile, St Etienne have been given a suspended sentence of playing one match behind closed doors following incidents in the derby against Lyon on 3rd March.
Lyon were fined é¼5,000 for their fans' role in clashes which saw firebombs thrown inside the stadium.
