Atletico strike Forlan deal

Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Diego Forlan from Villarreal.

Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Diego Forlan from Villarreal.

The former Manchester United ace was being tracked by a host of clubs, with a number of Premiership sides looking to bring him back to England.

However, Atletico have moved for Forlan and they seem to have secured a ready-made replacement for captain Fernando Torres.

Liverpool are widely expected to finalise a deal for Torres in the coming days, in a transfer now believed to be worth ‚é¼32million (£24.2million) plus Luis Garcia.

Of the ‚é¼32million, ‚é¼21million (£14.1million) of that has been used to purchase Forlan.

Atletico have confirmed that Forlan has agreed a four-year deal at the Vicente Calderon.

"Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and the representative of Diego Forlan have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Uruguayan player to the Rojiblanco club for the next four seasons," said a club statement.

Meanwhile, Atletico's Luciano Galletti has finalised his move to Greek giants Olympiakos.

The Argentine has parted company with Atletico after signing a four-year deal in Athens.

"I played for six years in Spain and I thought that this was the right moment for a change," said Galletti.

"I accepted the offer of Olympiakos because the people at the club showed me, since the first minute, that they wanted me so much.

"I came to the best Greek club and I will try my best to help the team to reach their targets."
