Sam Allardyce has continued his rebuilding at Newcastle with the capture of Geremi from Chelsea on a free transfer. The versatile Cameroon international has been in talks at St James' Park over the past few days and, has now concurred on terms over a three-year deal.
A medical has been passed and Geremi will join Newcastle subject to his obtaining of a routine work permit.
"Geremi has passed a medical and agreed personal terms with the Magpies, and will arrive on a free transfer from Chelsea on a three-year contract once his work permit has been obtained," confirmed a club spokesman.
The 28-year-old has been at Chelsea since 2003 but all too often has found opportunities scarce, in making just 72 appearances and scoring four goals.
He is, though, already well acquainted with the North East having spent the 2002/03 campaign on-loan at Middlesbrough, where he impressed, before making his move to the Premiership permanent in joining Chelsea.
Geremi becomes Newcastle's fourth signing of the summer, following on from the captures of Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal.
