Hammill makes Saints switch

Southampton have signed Liverpool winger Adam Hammill on a season-long loan deal.

Southampton have signed Liverpool winger Adam Hammill on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old has already joined up with his new team-mates at their pre-season army training camp after passing a medical at St Mary's.

Saints beat-off stiff competition from Scottish champions Celtic to land the services of the England U19 international and he is expected to make his debut by featuring in Saturday's opening friendly at Eastleigh before heading out to Norway for the two-game tour.

Boss George Burley told the club's website: "He is a young player who did very well on loan at Dumfermline last season.

"He can play right or left and is a quick player who likes to take people on. He has bags of potential and I am very pleased to have got him.

"There was a lot of interest from other clubs so I am delighted the deal is done.

"We have had a couple of other players on loan from Liverpool recently and they have both come along very nicely during their time with us.

"Maybe that stood us in good stead but I have always enjoyed working with young players and developing them with some success.

"Adam is coming to a club with good facilities and good young players and this is another step for him in his career."
