Sommeil makes Blades exit

David Sommeil has left Sheffield United and joined Valenciennes.

David Sommeil has left Sheffield United and penned a two-year deal with Ligue 1 outfit Valenciennes.

Sommeil made just five Premier League appearances for The Blades following his move from Manchester City.

City paid £3.5million for Sommeil back in January 2003 before allowing him to leave for free last summer.

The 32-year-old former Bordeaux and Rennes defender is hoping his return to France will kick-start his career.

"I had a big desire to move back to France," he told the club's official website. "Valenciennes is a good club, and I want to be part of its adventure."
