Wise: Beckford is staying

Leeds United boss Dennis Wise has told Scunthorpe he has no intention of selling striker Jermaine Beckford.

Leeds United boss Dennis Wise has told Scunthorpe he has no intention of selling striker Jermaine Beckford.

The 23-year-old was on loan at Scunthorpe last season as they gained promotion from League One, and boss Nigel Adkins has spent much of the summer trying to secure a permanent deal for the player.

However, Wise has now indicated that he sees Beckford's future at Elland Road.

"Jermaine is a fantastic talent," he told the club's official website. "A lot of people have just noticed him and, whether that's good or bad, I don't know.

"He's part of my club, part of my plans and I hope he's going to get me some goals this year.

"There's some young, hungry blood here now who want to prove things. That's what I want - not players who think they've done it and earn too much money."

Beckford was on the scoresheet for Leeds in their 1-0 pre-season friendly victory over Darlington on Tuesday night.
