Sevilla have agreed a deal to sign Colombian international defender Aquivaldo Mosquera.
Sevilla have moved to fill the void left by the impending departure of Ivica Dragutinovic by signing Colombian international defender Aquivaldo Mosquera. The 26-year-old joins from Mexican outfit Pachuca on a five-year contract. Although there has been no official confirmation of a fee, it is understood Sevilla have agreed to pay somewhere in the region of £5 million for the imposing stopper. Mosquera made his professional breakthrough at Atletico Nacional de Medellin in his homeland before joining Pachuca in 2005. He has won rave reviews for his performances with the Mexicans and was last year voted as the South American defender of the year. He has already headed to link up with his new team-mates with Pachuca president Jesus Martinez admitting he could not stand in his way. "Aquivaldo told me that you have to take your chances in football and that this was a dream he had always had," Martinez explained. "It would have been impossible for me to say no, I would seem very selfish." Sevilla have been on the look-out for defensive reinforcements with Aitor Ocio having already left the club for Athletic Bilbao, Dragutinovic poised for a move to Newcastle and Javi Navarro recently injured during pre-season.
