Midfielder denies Birmingham criticism

Martin Jol has offered his support to Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Hossam Ghaly. The Egyptian's proposed £3million move to Birmingham City collapsed last week due to concerns over his attitude. Birmingham boss Steve Bruce revealed the deal had been cancelled after Ghaly cast doubt over the quality of the St Andrews squad. Ghaly has subsequently returned to White Hart Lane and informed his Spurs manager of his version of events.

Very good boy

Having spoken to the player, Jol suggested Ghaly is not the type of player to be outspoken in his views. "I had a good word with Ghaly and he told me he never said anything about the players," said Jol in the Daily Mirror. "I know him - he's a very good boy, he never says anything, head down, works. "I had one incident with him, but it was the only time he ever got fined for something."
