Young striker agrees professional contract

Ipswich striker Jordan Rhodes has signed his first professional contract with the club. Rhodes is currently in his second year at the Ipswich Academy, but he is now targeting a place in manager Jim Magilton's first-team after putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal. The teenager has admitted his delight at agreeing the contract, but he acknowledges there is plenty of hard work to come. "This is what all the hard work has been about, getting my chance here, but I know there is a lot more hard work ahead of me," Rhodes told Ipswich's official website.

Challenge

"I'm learning all the time though and my target is definitely to try and break into the first-team squad this season." Rhodes' father, Andy, is the goalkeeping coach at Portman Road and he has revealed his pleasure at witnessing his son's progress. "It's a proud day for me as a father and obviously I'm delighted for Jordan," Andy Rhodes told Ipswich's official website. "Now the challenge is there for him to push on from here and stake a claim for a first-team chance."
