While Sven Goran Eriksson's tenure at Eastlands has coincided with a wave of arrivals from foreign shores, one Englishman, Johnson, has benefited greatly from the Swede's appointment.
Installed as the heartbeat of the club's new-look midfield, Johnson has manfully filled the void left by Joey Barton's move to Newcastle.
Johnson scored his first senior goal for City in the club's second game of the season, a 1-0 home win over Derby, and now he can look forward to a prolonged spell in sky blue.
Double delight
In other news, 19-year-old defender Shaleum Logan has been rewarded for some promising displays in pre-season with a three-year contract.
Speaking of the double deal, City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh confirmed his delight at securing the services of two young players of considerable promise.
"In awarding new contracts to Michael and Shaleum we are once again demonstrating Manchester City's commitment to investing in our young, home-grown players," he told the club's official website.
"With a spine of hugely talented Academy-bred youngsters we have made an excellent start to the season and are delighted to have secured the long-term futures of both players at this football club."
