But McIlroy's men have made the headlines after two Carling Cup upsets this month.
Morecambe saw off Preston in the first round before knocking out Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek.
McIlroy has been delighted with the start The Shrimps have made to the season in both the league and cup.
"It's great for everyone, the town's buzzing, the players are buzzing and everyone connected with Morecambe is really excited," he told

"But as you know there's a long, long way to go."
McIlroy beat off competition from Chester chief Bobby Williamson and Darlington boss Dave Penney to land the award.
