Tractor Boys disappointed at missing out on Spaniard

Ipswich chief executive Derek Bowden has revealed that the club were 'close' to signing Spaniard Cesar Navas. Navas agreed to join Racing Santander from Malaga after the Cantabrians' late bid scuppered a move to Portman Road. The defender is currently sidelined with a broken metatarsal, which he picked up during a pre-season friendly against Ipswich.

Personal terms

Bowden is keen for the club to move on quickly, he said: "We are naturally very disappointed, having agreed terms with Malaga, Navas will not be joining us. "Last Friday we seemed close to agreeing personal terms. "But since that time, the player has decided to reject our final offer so that is the end of the matter."
