Hughes: Bentley is no clone

Mark Hughes does not believe David Bentley should be regarded as a direct replacement for David Beckham.

Rovers boss warns against Beckham comparison

Mark Hughes has backed David Bentley to be successful for England, but does not believe he should be regarded as a direct replacement for David Beckham. Steve McClaren called Bentley into his England squad for the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia after losing Beckham to injury. Bentley could line up on the wing and his manager at Blackburn is confident he is ready for international duty after an impressive start to the new Premier League season. Hughes feels Bentley has a similar work ethic to Beckham but has warned the fans that he has different attributes to the Los Angles Galaxy midfielder in terms of the way he plays. "Don't just label Bentley a David Beckham clone - he has a lot to his game and is a different player," Hughes said in The Sun. "Every day he comes in and tries to improve and make himself better. "I've worked with David Beckham as well and I know that was a big quality of his. "So if there is a similarity it's the way they approach their work in a professional manner."
