Should a Premier League club have bought Edin Dzeko last summer from Manchester City?
The Sun's European football correspondent Antony Kastrinakis thought so, telling the Sunday Supplement he was surprised to see Premier League clubs pass on the opportunity to sign the former City striker.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international left City for Roma on a season-long loan deal after four years at the Etihad Stadium, during which he won two premier League titles,an FA Cup and a League Cup.
Dzeko scored 50 goals in 130 Premier League appearances and was chased by four Serie A clubs during the summer and Kastrinakis revealed Roma were elated to win the race to his signature.
He told the Sunday Supplement: "He was a star signing for Roma. Thousands turned up at the airport to see him.
"He hasn't scored many goals for Roma yet but he is a phenomenal striker. I am amazed that no Premier League club decided to go for him. The same goes for Stevan Joevtic really after he left City.
"There are some many clubs needing good strikers in the Premier League that I don't know why they did not go for him," he added. "Maybe City told him that he could only go abroad and that they would not sell him to direct rivals.
"However, he is considered one of the top 20 strikers in Europe. He is very highly rated in Europe and there were four clubs in Serie A fighting for his services and Roma were elated to get him."
Dzeko will lead the line for Bosnia and Herzegovina when they travel to Dublin for the second leg of their European Qualifier against Republic of Ireland.
With just eight minutes remaining in the first leg in Zenica Bosnia found themselves behind after Robbie Brady's strike but when Mhemed Bazdarevic's side needed him most, Dzeko scored an equaliser.
And when asked if Dzeko will be the difference when the two sides meet in Dublin, Kastrinakis said: "Just when Bosnia and Herzegovina looked down and out, he pops up [with a goal].
"That's a concern for Ireland."
