Bottom team's poor start leads to manager's sack
Energie Cottbus boss Petrik Sander has become the first Bundesliga managerial casualty of the season.
He received the sack after Saturday's 2-1 loss at home to Vfl Wolfsburg meant his team were winless after six matches and lying bottom of the Bundesliga.
The 46-year-old's tenure at the club last almost three years and he helped them gain some success - leading them to the second division title in 2006 before finishing 13th in the Bundesliga last season.
But the poor start this season - with only two points from a possible 18 - led to his marching orders.
Negative
Explaining Sander's sacking, Cottbus' general manager Steffen Heidrich told a press conference on Sunday: "The sporting situation is very negative."
Possible replacements to succeed Sander in the Cottbus hot-seat are Klaus Augenthaler and Jurgen Kohler.
The club founded by coal miners from the former east Germany back in the 1960s.
