South Korea have banned Middlesbrough striker Lee Dong-gook for 12 months over a late-night drinking spree during the Asian Cup.

South Korea have banned Middlesbrough striker Lee Dong-gook for 12 months over a late-night drinking spree during the Asian Cup. Lee, along with goalkeeper and captain Lee Woon-jae, defender Kim Sang-sik and striker Woo Sung-yong, left the South Korean team base to go on a boozy night out a day after the 2-1 defeat to Bahrain on 15th July. Goalkeeper Lee Woon-Jae pleaded for forgiveness for the offence, but the Korea Football Association have decided to come down hard on the players. Lee Woon-jae has been banned from internationals for three years and given 80 hours community service. Boro striker Lee, Kim Sang-sik and Woo Sung-yong have all been suspended for two years from events South Korea's Football Association runs and told to perform 40 hours community service.
