Scotland boss Shelley Kerr discusses the government's £80,000 investment to take the women's team full-time

Shelley Kerr believes the Scottish government's funding for the women's national team is "massive" for their hopes at the 2019 World Cup in France.

The £80,000 investment from the government will enable the entire squad to train full-time from January in the build-up to next year's tournament.

Scottish-based players currently have to combine full-time employment with their training commitments at both national and club level.

Asked about the impact of the funding, Scotland manager Kerr, said: "I think it's massive for preparation for the World Cup.

"It gives us an opportunity for the home-based players playing in Scotland to train almost full-time and that in itself will give us the best opportunity going into the World Cup finals.

"For many, many years the players based in Scotland some of them are having to juggle full-time employment as well as train twice a day.

"That's not easy. Some of them are getting up at six in the morning. The important thing here is the rest and recovery and it's massive for the players."
