German international David Odonkor will be out for two months as he is set to undergo an operation on his troublesome knee.

Winger needs surgery to rectify old problem

German international David Odonkor will be out for two months after undergoing an operation on his knee injury. The Real Betis winger needs the surgery after suffering a recurrence of an old problem. The injury means Odonkor will miss Germany's final Euro 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and Wales, as well as his domestic fixtures. Odonkor told Ruhr Nachrichten: "It looks like I'm going to be out for two months.

Recurrence

"The injury is a recurrence of an old problem - it's not too serious, but I have to undergo an operation." Odonkor, 23, moved to Real Betis in a £4million switch from Borussia Dortmund in August 2006. He has recently managed to hold down a first team berth following an injury-plagued start to his time in Spain.
