Middlesbrough have recalled winger Adam Johnson a month early from his loan spell at Championship leaders Watford.
Johnson moved to Vicarage Road in September to gain regular first-team football as he struggled to make the bench at The Riverside.
However, the England Under 21 star has shone at Watford - bagging five goals in just 10 starts and his form has made it impossible for manager Gareth Southgate to ignore.
Boro themselves are going through a horrific run of form and, with attacking invention severely lacking in recent weeks, Johnson's return would seemingly be ideally timed as well as predictable.
Johnson, currently with Stuart Pearce's Under 21 squad, will now be in line to even make the starting line-up for Boro's clash with Aston Villa next weekend.
