Newport have signed Preston defender Ben Davies on loan until February 13.

Subject to international clearance, the 20-year-old will go straight into the Exiles squad for their FA Cup third-round tie with Blackburn on Saturday.

"I have always liked Ben," Newport manager John Sheridan told the Sky Bet League 2 club's official website.

"I remember from back when I was at Plymouth that he did really well at York City and even helped them get into the play-offs.

"I know that he has a good understanding of this division and I think he is unfortunate not to be playing regularly for Preston.

"Ben has done well in this division before and this move is an opportunity for him to play some games."

Cardiff duo Jazzi Barnum-Bobb and Tommy O'Sullivan have both returned to the Bluebirds following the expiry of their loan deals.

Davies spent time on loan at Southport earlier this season and Sheridan added: "It was important that he wasn't cup-tied before joining us.

"Hopefully Ben will come in and hit the ground running."
