Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher sympathised with Bournemouth's frustrations after their 1-0 defeat at Liverpool, as the Cherries had two major decisions go against them.
Christian Benteke's first-half effort was enough to give Brendan Rodgers' men the victory in the Monday Night Football encounter, moving them level on points with Manchester United, Leicester and Manchester City at the top of the early Premier League table.
However, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is demanding answers as to why referee Craig Pawson allowed Benteke's winning goal to stand at Anfield when Philippe Coutinho was offside, and disallowed an early goal by Tommy Elphick.
According to new rules brought in for this season, a player in an offside position shall be penalised if he: "Clearly attempts to play which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent."
“New rules, whatever you want to call them, it’s offside…it’s a poor decision,” said Carragher.
Neville added: “If Coutinho is not there, the goalkeeper shifts his body right to the far side and tries to smother it at the back post.”
