Jamie Carragher praised Everton midfielder Tom Davies' maturity after his man-of-the-match-performance in his side’s 4-0 win over Manchester City.
Davies put in an impressive display in the middle of the park, playing a crucial part in Everton’s opener before scoring his side’s third goal.
And Carragher was full of praise for the 18-year-old.
“We spoke about him at Hull when he came on to replace Gareth Barry on that Friday night and he brought that extra energy into midfield,” Carragher said on Super Sunday.
“For 18, and it showed in his interview as well, you can see the maturity in his game and the way he plays.
When asked whether it was a brave decision from Ronald Koeman to start Davies, Carragher added: “It was. Morgan Schneiderlin has come in as well but he now might be thinking he’s made a mistake seeing this performance.”
Davies capped a fine performance with a well-taken goal, and Carragher was impressed with the youngster’s dinked finish to beat Man City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.
“I love the finish,” the former Liverpool defender said. “How many players would just smash it late in a game and panic when the goalkeeper comes out.
“But to dink that ball and I’m delighted he’s got the goal.”
Carragher also praised Everton, and Liverpool, for bringing players through their academy, claiming the city is lucky both clu s are continuing to develop home grown talent.
“Davies is not the only one,” he said. “There’s another midfield player at Everton in Kieran Dowell, who may come in the future.
“There’s lots of players coming through at Goodison Park. We must also mention Liverpool.
“We are lucky in the city that lots of players come through both clubs.”
