England withstood heavy home pressure to leave Duisburg with a 0-0 draw from their friendly against Germany on Thursday evening.

Mark Sampson's side had a combination of Karen Bardsley's goalkeeping and poor German finishing to thank for the result, in a rematch of the World Cup's third-place play-off.

Bardsley kept the score even at the break, denying Felicitas Rauch after a Lucy Bronze mistake, and was equal to a Melanie Leupolz header after the restart.

Babett Peter shot just wide before Dzsenifer Marozsan missed the chance of the game 14 minutes from time, heading straight at Bardsley.

England were finally able to threaten in the game's final exchanges and might even have nicked a win, but Jill Scott scuffed one shot and sent another too high.
