England Women defender Alex Scott has paid tribute to the impact coach Mark Sampson has had on the national team.

Sampson, who succeeded Hope Powell last December, has overseen England’s qualification for the World Cup in Canada following a campaign where his side did not drop a point.

Their place at next year’s finals was assured with a 4-0 win over Wales on Thursday and Scott believes their performances are testament to Sampson’s positive influence.

“Since Mark came in he has brought a new attitude to the team,” Scott told Sky Sports News HQ. “We want to attack and be brave and I think that has been showing in the games.

“He’s freshened things up, everyone is fighting for places, he’s brought through youngsters like Jodie Taylor and everyone is really champing at the bit to get into this England team.

“It’s exciting, it’s fresh, we’re playing exciting football on the front foot and that’s showed in the games. It’s great to be a part of the team at the moment.”
