Gers grind out impressive away win

Rangers moved top of the SPL for at least a few hours with a 2-1 win over Hibernian at Easter Road. Walter Smith's side flew out of the blocks and Chris Burke had a penalty shout waved away inside the first six minutes. Rangers continued to bombard the Hibernian goal and it came as no surprise when Steven Naismith gave them the lead on 12 minutes. Burke again caused problems down the right and his cross-shot was bundled in at the back post by Naismith. The Glasgow giants enjoyed the better of the first-half chances but failed to add to their lead before the break.

Positive

Hibs began the second half in a positive manner and Dean Shiels was unlucky to have his penalty claims turned down after a clumsy-looking challenge from David Weir. Just before the hour mark though, Rangers extended their lead through a fine strike from Daniel Cousin. Picking the ball up 20 yards out the French striker hit a unstoppable left-footed drive past a helpless Yves Ma Kalambay. Hibs gave themselves hope with two minutes left when Merouanne Zemmama beat Allan McGregor with a low drive from the edge of the box, but they were unable to find an equaliser and Rangers held on for all three-points.
