Former Spurs striker attracting interest from Rome

Rosenborg's Steffen Iversen is close to securing a move to Italian side Lazio, according to his agent. Iversen had been linked with a return to English football, with a move to Wolves looking the most likely option, but he has now attracted the interest of the Rome giants. The Norwegian international striker enjoyed a successful spell at Spurs between 1996 and 2003 and impressed for Rosenborg in this season's UEFA Champions League. Lazio are currently 14th in Serie A after a disappointing campaign to date, and with speculation linking top scorer Goran Pandev with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico the club will be keen to bring in an experienced replacement.

Negotiations

"I know that the people I work with in Italy are in negotiations with the club," Iversen's agent Christian Eidem told Dagbladet. "But I can't say how long into that process they are at present." However, Rosenborg have insisted that they want to keep Iversen in Norway. "We strongly desire that he stays, both considering the upcoming season and the Uefa Cup in February," said interim sports director Erik Hoftun. "It would be very unfortunate if he left now. We have had a meeting with Steffen and he is happy to stay."
