Higginbotham and Leadbitter out with broken toes

Sunderland duo Danny Higginbotham and Grant Leadbitter face spells on the sidelines with broken toes. Higginbotham has been ruled out for six weeks with his injury, while Leadbitter is expected to return in three weeks. Black Cats boss Roy Keane confirmed the pair would be missing from his plans for the foreseeable future. "Danny has a broken toe and so has Grant," Keane told the Sunderland Echo. "Players play with these injuries and hope they go away, and it's only when you have them scanned that you realise what's wrong." Defender Higginbotham missed last week's win over Portsmouth with the injury and had been an ever-present in the Premier League since his move from Stoke City. Leadbitter came on as a substitute against Pompey and the midfielder's injury follows on from Ross Wallace being ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee problem.
