Trotters make second move for defender
Bolton Wanderers have agreed a fee with Aston Villa for sought-after defender Gary Cahill.
Villa rejected a bid thought to be in the region of £4million from the Trotters last week, but Gary Megson has identified Cahill as his prime target and has returned with an increased offer.
The England Under 21 international had attracted interest from Sheffield United, Sunderland and Birmingham since the transfer window opened but now looks set to make a move to the Reebok.
Cahill had spent a large part of the season on loan at Sheffield United to gain first-team experience and will be delighted at the prospect of beign able to play regular Premier League football.
Bolton boss Gary Megson is also looking forward to welcoming a player of Cahill's quality to the club, as he believes that is what the Trotters require if they are to beat the drop.
Personal terms
"We've been talking to Aston villa for two-and-a-half, three weeks now to try and get a fee agreed, which we've done," he told
Sky Sports News.
"We're now talking to Gary to try and get the personal terms done and we'll take it from there.
"There's also quite a few other clubs interested in him, but he's the type of player we are trying to bring to Bolton to help us move forward.
"It remains to be seen whether we can do it, but it won't be for the want of trying."
