Arsenal full-back Alex Scott admits the lure of playing in a Wembley final is an added source of motivation for all the players ahead of this weekend’s Women’s FA Cup Fifth Round.
Arsenal travel to The Den to take on Millwall Lionesses on Sunday, looking to take the first step towards retaining the trophy they won after defeating Everton 2-0 at Stadium MK last year.
“For the FA Women’s Cup final to be announced at Wembley is a big incentive for every team to want to get to that final,” Scott told Sky Sports.
“It’s huge for women’s football and I think it would be a great boost coming off the back of a World Cup to hopefully draw in a massive crowd and carry that momentum forward for the women’s game."
Scott is no stranger to Wembley having played there for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics as well as in last November’s friendly with European champions Germany.
“It’s something we’d like to see more of,” the England centurion added. “It’s always a massive honour and achievement to step out on to the pitch at Wembley.
“We won the FA Cup last year and hopefully we’ll be there again in the final this year.”
Bristol Academy’s tie at Everton takes place on Tuesday due to their Champions League commitments and goalkeeper Mary Earps admits a Wembley final is huge for the women’s game.
“I still can’t believe it when people talk about it,” Earps said. “The news broke last week and it’s absolutely fantastic for English women’s football.
“I think everyone involved understands the significance of it being at Wembley – it’s a massive step forward. We don’t need any extra incentive, but that is definitely something that we will be taking into every single tie to push us that extra bit further.”
