Jewell - It was embarrassing

Rams boss feeling the Blues after Bridge battering

Paul Jewell admitted he can't wait for the Premier League season to end so he can start rebuilding for the inevitable challenge that awaits his side in the Championship next season. The Derby boss claimed he was "squirming in embarrassment" as he watched his side torn to pieces against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard scored four goals as the Blues bounced back from their FA Cup disappointment with an emphatic display against the rock-bottom Rams. Jewell said: "It wasn't a match really was it? It was like the heavyweight world champion fighting the lightweight amateur wasn't it? "But that's what we're up against. When we play against Chelsea we know it's going to be tough - next season can't come quick enough we've said that all along. "It's almost embarrassing to sit there and squirm through ninety minutes.

Bemused

"The supporters were our best players tonight yet again, but we are where we are because of what we have got and I'm part of that, I'm not hiding behind it - I've been here 15 games now." Jewell continued to lay into his side, and although he realises his players are short of confidence he was still left bemused by the performances of some of his players. "The players can't do it at this level so we're looking forward to getting some people into the club who can do it at the next level," he said. "What we've got here is players low on confidence but some of the things that go on out there beggar belief for so called Premier League footballers." Lampard scored the first of his four goals from the penalty spot in what was the opening goal of the game.
Collapsed
The England international was felled by substitute Darren Leacock, but Jewell was less that convinced with the decision. "I'm not so sure it was a penalty to be perfectly honest, I can understand why the referees given it," Jewell said. "We say certain things to the players before the game and in training, and as soon as something goes against us we collapse like a pack of cards. "It tells you something about where this team is that you are almost happy with 20 minutes remaining that we have lost this game 6-1. "I'll battle through it and I'm counting down the days until the 27th June when we're back in training. "Hopefully we've got some better equipped players for the league we're going to be in."
