Skysports.com breaks down the best of Arsenal's Premier League goals.
Arsenal scored their 1000th Premier League goal recently and
skysports.com's Gunners fan James Dall has gone through each and every one to find the best 10 strikes.
1 - Thierry Henry v Manchester United, 1st October 2000
It should come as no shock that Henry claims the top prize for scoring Arsenal's greatest Premier League goal. This effort was quite stunning, and will forever remain in the memory of football fans around the world. The goal itself demonstrated an astounding footballing instinct. It was a moment in which Highbury stood still as Henry attempted the unthinkable. After receiving possession on the edge of the area, in one motion he flicked the ball up while turning to strike devastatingly past a helpless Fabien Barthez. Simply outstanding.
2 - Dennis Bergkamp v Newcastle United, 2nd March 2002
To put words to this goal can only do it an injustice. The Dutchman gifted the Premier League with so many moments of genius, and this specific strike encapsulates all things pure about Bergkamp's ability. He somehow managed to stop time to leave Nikos Dabizas flummoxed by such precocious brilliance. Robert Pires fired a pass into Bergkamp, who manipulated the ball in impeccable fashion to spin his marker, before shrugging him off to slot home.
3 - Robin Van Persie v Charlton Athletic, 30th September 2006
At 24-years-old, this man has already netted some truly remarkable goals. However, this particular strike is the pick of the bunch. Credit must go to Emmanuel Eboue who provided the technically impeccable Dutchman with the opportunity to silence The Valley. The pacey full-back surged down the right before pulling back a deep cross to the edge of the area. Van Persie managed to rise off the ground - adjusting brilliantly as he ran onto the ball - before smashing home an unstoppable volley into the top corner. A simply outrageous strike and one of the best volleys you will ever see.
4 - Dennis Bergkamp v Leicester City 27th August 27 1997
Bergkamp secures another spot in the top 10 with his final strike in what was a truly memorable hat-trick. The treble itself has been described as one of the greatest of all time, but in this instance we shall concentrate solely on the third goal. It was a goal that oozed class, and left pundits searching for superlatives. David Platt picked up the ball before lofting a pass into the penalty area. Bergkamp had a lot to do, but he made it look effortless. He killed the ball instantly and then transferred it to his left foot. Foxes defender Matt Elliott attempted to react but he was left bamboozled, as Bergkamp opened his body up to slot home beautifully.
5 - Robert Pires v Aston Villa 17th March 2002
One of Arsenal's greatest ever midfielders books his place in our list with a goal that should never be forgotten. Pires' attacking play is something to behold, with the Frenchman possessing a natural ability to arrive late in the box to tap home. However, in this instance, he did no such thing as he made a mockery of the 6'4" Peter Schmeichel. The forward latched onto a sweeping pass from left-to-right, before dinking past George Boateng and then weighting a perfect lob over Schmeichel. A delicious manipulation of a football.
6 - Thierry Henry v Tottenham Hotspur, 16th November 2002
A rabbit caught in the headlights of a powerful and devastating juggernaut comes to mind when reminiscing over this goal. Spurs simply did not know what to do when Henry picked up the ball inside his own half. He just ran and ran, with devastating consequences. Several Tottenham players attempted to pinch the ball off him, but they had no chance. After covering an incredible distance and twisting effortlessly past the fearful defence, Henry dispatched into the bottom corner to send Highbury into an eruption of noise.
7 - Nwankwo Kanu v Chelsea October 23, 1999
Kanu's 90th minutes strike capped a memorable hat-trick as The Gunners secured an impressive win at Stamford Bridge. The laid back striker is calmness personified and he demonstrated his composure in stunning fashion with this cracker. After chasing down a clearance Kanu found himself on the by-line and one-on-one with keeper Ed de Goey. He did not panic; instead nonchalantly dropped a shoulder to round the Blues keeper. He was now presented with the almost impossible task of bending an effort into the net with two Chelsea defenders waiting to clear. But he did just that, as his curled shot fizzed past the helpless duo Frank Leboeuf and Marcel Desailly.
8 - Nwankwo Kanu v Middlesbrough, 24th April 1999
The cheek of this goal sums up Kanu's relaxed attitude on the football pitch. So often he tries the ridiculous, but it is only because he is capable of the unique. Many have attempted to pull off what the Nigerian accomplished at the Riverside Stadium, with the majority failing miserably. Lee Dixon delivered a low ball in from the right and Kanu expertly flicked through his legs to leave Mark Schwarzer scrambling in embarrassment.
9 - Ian Wright v Everton, 28th August 28 1993
Wright sneaks into the top 10 with a peach of a strike which proves he was not just a goal poacher. When a ball came over the top and bounced once, Wright kept it air-bound as he juggled from his right to his left foot. A perplexed Matt Jackson had little clue of what was happening, while Wright constructed an image in his mind of what he would do. As the ball landed perfectly back onto his right-foot, he lifted his shot beautifully over a despairing Neville Southall.
10 - Thierry Henry v Tottenham Hotspur, 22nd April 2006
All top 10s need an outsider to spark debate. This goal provides just that as Henry's quick-footedness is quite staggering. With their fiercest rivals leading 1-0 at Highbury, Arsene Wenger's side were in desperate need of inspiration. Emmanuel Adebayor battled hard to work himself into space before rolling a through ball into Henry. And here is where the magic sparkles as the Frenchman took two touches, quick as a flash, to bury into the corner. He broke from customary composure to go berserk, as did the Highbury faithful.
