Holland international set for Liga switch

Atletico Madrid have agreed a fee of 10million euros (£7.8m) for Ajax defender Johnny Heitinga. On Saturday evening, Ajax announced what the Spanish club would pay for the Holland international, after the player agreed a five-year deal with Atletico. Heitinga, 24, is a product of the Ajax youth academy and is in his 17th year at the club and made his debut in 2001. His contract at Ajax was due to run until 2011.

Davids

Meanwhile, Ajax's veteran midfielder Edgar Davids says he is almost certain to retire at the end of the season. "It's 98 per cent certain," the 35-year-old told Dutch media on Sunday. Capped 74 times for Holland, Davids made the announcement after his club's 5-1 win over Heracles, a result that was not enough to prevent PSV Eindhoven winning the league title. The former Milan, Juventus, Barcelona and Tottenham star added that if he were to continue it would be with a new club.
