Bundesliga outfit Schalke have confirmed Dutchman Fred Rutten as their new coach from next season. The Royal Blues made the announcement at a press-conference on Wednesday just a week after sacking Mirko Slomka. Rutten, who had also been linked with Schalke's Bundesliga rivals Hamburg, will move to the Veltins Arena in the summer after agreeing a two-year contract. The 45-year-old has spent most of his career as both a player and coach at Twente, leading the club into the play-offs for a UEFA Champions League place this season after finishing fourth in the Eredivisie table. Schalke have paid Twente 500,000 euros in compensation and confirmed that current caretakers Mike Buskens and Youri Mulder will remain as Rutten's assistants.
