Gary McDonald has turned down a new contract at Oldham Athletic in order to return to Scotland with Aberdeen.
The former Kilmarnock midfielder has impressed at Oldham over the past two seasons and scored a famous winner against Everton in the FA Cup in January.
He was offered a two-year deal to stay at Boundary Park, but McDonald had signed a pre-contract agreement with Aberdeen.
McDonald has accepted a two-year contract with the Dons and is looking forward to playing in the SPL again next season.
Great club
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oldham and was made a good offer to stay," McDonald told Aberdeen's
official website.
"However, the lure of returning to the SPL with such a great club as Aberdeen was a major factor in my decision and I can't wait for the new season to get under way."
Meanwhile, Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood has urged striker Lee Miller to make a decision this week regarding a new contract at Pittodrie.
Calderwood told the
Press & Journal: "The Lee Miller situation has dragged on long enough and needs to be settled this week.
"He's keeping his options open, which I understand, but he has to realise I have plans to make as well.
"I want Lee to stay because he's been an important player for us. But if he is going we have to move on."
