Capello names United and Liverpool stars as top players
Fabio Capello has named Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernando Torres as his players of the year.
The England boss believes the duo, along with Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas, have been the top performers since he took the national team job back in January.
The fact that the trio are unavailable to him at international level is likely to further fuel the debate that there are not enough talented Englishmen plying their trade in the top flight.
It is a problem which Capello will be keen to address in the future, but for now he must accept that it is foreign talent which often shines brightest in the Premier League.
Fantastic
"It would be a tough decision between Ronaldo and Torres and to these two players I would add another player who has had a fantastic season, even though he is tired now, and that is Fabregas," Capello said in an interview with Nationwide Building Society.
Capello's short-listed stars will all be on show at Euro 2008, and the England boss turned tipster as he revealed the sides he expects to challenge for the trophy this summer.
"The team that has got the better players on paper is Spain," he said.
"But I would narrow it down to four teams.
"France - a very good team, very solid players. Germany, who are never among the favourites but are always there when it matters, and Italy. I think they are close as well."
