Defender signs on for another 12 months

Leyton Orient defender Alton Thelwell has signed a new one-year contract at Brisbane Road. The 27-year-old former Tottenham centre-back would have been a free agent in the summer, but he has committed himself to the Os for another 12 months. Thelwell played 32 games this season despite a persistent knee injury, which eventually required surgery, but it is expected he will be fully fit in time for pre-season. Meanwhile, Orient boss Martin Ling has identified a shortlist of three strikers he is keen to capture over the summer.

Summer targets

Ling has already admitted an interest in Northampton's Poul Hubertz, while he also has been linked with another Cobblers forward, Adebayo Akinfenwa, and Jamie Guy of Colchester. "We have identified three strikers we're interested in, but it's too early to say whether any of them will end up here," said Ling. The Os also need a left-back following the return of Charlie Daniels to Spurs, and have been linked with out-of-contract Colchester defender Danny Granville. Ling is also waiting for contract decisions from goalkeeper Glenn Morris and midfielder Paul Terry.
