Slovakian set to take charge in Moscow

Lubos Michel will take charge of the UEFA Champions League final between Manchester United and Chelsea. The Slovakian is widely regarded as one of the finest referees in the world and has officiated at Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup. He was also the man in the middle for the 2003 Uefa Cup final between Porto and Celtic. However, he is probably best remembered for his decision to award Luis Garcia a controversial goal in Liverpool's Champions League semi-final victory over Chelsea in 2005. Michel will have no problem communicating with the players during the game on Wednesday as he is fluent in English, Russian, German, Polish as well as his native tongue. His assistants at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow will be Roman Slysko and Martin Balko. The fourth official will be Vladimir Hrinak, all three men also hail from Slovakia.
