Cagliari have appointed Massimiliano Allegri as the club's new coach after Davide Ballardini's exit
Ballardini unable to agree terms on extension
Cagliari have appointed Massimiliano Allegri as the club's new coach after failing to agree a deal with Davide Ballardini.
After leading Cagliari to Serie A survival, Ballardini was widely expected to remain in charge of the club next season.
However, the two parties were unable to settle on a financial package and Ballardini confirmed his exit from the Sardinian side on Wednesday.
He told
Radio Kiss Kiss: "Cagliari confirmed me as their trainer for next season, but we then had a disagreement. It was an economic problem."
Cagliari have moved quickly to bring in a replacement after appointing former player Allegri on a one-year rolling contract.
Allegri, who played for the club in the mid-1990s, has just led Sassuolo into Serie B for the first time in the club's history.
