Turkey defender agrees three-year deal at Friendship Stadium

Energie Cottbus have landed their third signing of the summer after securing Turkey international Cagdas Atan. The defender has left Trabzonspor and agreed a three-year deal at the Friendship Stadium as Cottbus aim to build a squad capable of securing Bundesliga survival next season. Left-sided centre-back Atan becomes the third new face at Cottbus following the arrivals of Romanian striker Emil Jula and Montenegro defender Savo Pavicevic. And Cottbus general manager Steffan Heidrich has hailed the arrival of the 28-year-old, who narrowly missed out on a spot in Turkey's Euro 2008 squad. "We have watched Atan many times and we have been very impressed," Heidrich told Cottbus' official website. "We are delighted that such a robust and experienced player will be strengthening our squad." Atan, who has won four international caps, made 41 appearances for Trabzonspor and scored five goals in that time.
