France coach Raymond Domenech has apologised for proposing to his girlfriend moments after his team had been knocked out of Euro 2008.
Les Bleus were eliminated from the tournament in Austria & Switzerland on Tuesday evening following a 2-0 defeat to world champions Italy.
When asked if he would resign following the loss he opted against answering the question and instead outlined his plans to marry his girlfriend.
Domenech has now apologised for his error in judgement, although he has stated his apparent spontaneous act of love was not to avoid discussing his future.
Error
"Yes, forgive me. It was an error in communication," explained Domenech. "I felt a moment of humanity when I should have stayed cold and professional.
"Behind my outer shell, I felt the need to tell people that I love them. It was a moment of spontaneity, of sincerity, of total emotion.
"My son sent me a text message to tell me he loves me. I saw players crying, others throwing their (football) boots."
