Wales midfielder deemed surplus to requirements

Ipswich midfielder Gavin Williams has been told that he has no future with the Portman Road club. Wales international Williams made just 11 starts for the Tractor Boys last season after his £300,000 move from West Ham in January 2006. Manager Jim Magilton admitted that Williams had failed to do enough to convince the club that they should persevere with his services.

Unfulfilled potential

Magilton told the club's official website: "There are still bits and pieces to be done but it looks as though Gavin will be on his way. "It was inevitable that Gavin needed to move on to further his career. "When he was good, he was very good but we never saw enough of that here and I think you could say he has unfulfilled potential. "Injuries hampered his career at Ipswich but if he can get a run of games going then maybe someone will see the best of him."
