Belgian blasts Hoffman

Manchester City new boy Vincent Kompany has slammed former club Hamburg for the way he was treated at the HSH Nordbank Arena. Kompany joined City last month in a surprise deal after a bust-up with Hamburg over his involvement at the Olympics with Belgium. In an interview with SportBild, the Belgian international star singled out chairman Bernd Hoffman for fierce criticism. "He is one of those people who know about money, but don't know anything about football," said Kompany. "HSV just doesn't know how to deal with big-money signings." Kompany, who joined the Rothosen for €8million from Anderlecht in 2006, added that during pre-season Hoffmann continually reminded him of what he cost the club. "That is bad for your psyche," added Kompany. "The club hasn't won anything for 20 years. Hamburg is the second biggest city in Germany and this record cannot just be the players' fault."
