Leeds v Crewe preview

Whites must begin to show title-challenging form

Leeds go in search of a first home win of the season when they welcome Crewe to Elland Road. The Whites have made a disappointing start to the new campaign and will be keen to get back to winning ways this weekend. Crewe, meanwhile, have suffered defeat in both of their games on the road so far and must improve their away record if they are to avoid being dragged into a dogfight at the bottom.

Showunmi doubt

Leeds striker Enoch Showunmi is doubtful for Saturday's clash due to a hip injury. The summer signing from Bristol City was kicked on his hip bone during the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Bradford and is rated 50/50. Manager Gary McAllister has hinted at reshuffling his starting line-up after making seven changes on Tuesday. Left-back Alan Sheehan is available again following concussion sustained at Yeovil, central defender Paul Huntington has shaken off a knock he picked up against Bradford and Paul Telfer is also back in the reckoning. McAllister must decide whether to recall Casper Ankergren in goal or stick with David Lucas, who has started in Leeds' last three matches. Luciano Becchio and Jermaine Beckford, who have scored nine goals between them this season, are expected to start up front.
O'Connor out
Crewe first-team coach Steve Holland will be without Michael O'Connor. O'Connor has joined up with the Northern Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifier against Slovakia despite suffering a knee injury during the 2-0 defeat to Hereford last weekend. Goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson is expected to be out for another two months with the cruciate ligament injury he suffered at the end of last season. But striker Calvin Zola (ankle) and midfielder Eugen Bopp (groin) are both available for selection following their return to full fitness. Defender Billy Jones is set to keep his place in the side after he came through 90 minutes unscathed - and got his name on the scoresheet - in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory against Macclesfield following his recovery from a neck injury.
