Tigers chief raves over Brazilian new boy

Hull City chairman Paul Duffen has spoken in glowing terms about the impact Geovanni has had on the club since moving to the KC Stadium in the summer. While there was never any doubting Hull's tenacity and work-rate upon their promotion to the Premier League, there had been reservations about whether they would have the necessary guile to survive in the top flight. Tigers boss Phil Brown worked tirelessly over the summer to add flair to his ranks and achieved just that when he convinced Geovanni to join the club on a free transfer from Manchester City. After being given limited opportunities at Eastlands, the Brazilian schemer has thrived in his new surrounds and played a key role in Hull's fantastic start to the season. Geovanni has already scored three league goals to date, with the last two stunning strikes from range helping Hull to a six-point haul from trips to Arsenal and Tottenham. Such eye-catching displays are reported to have attracted attention from elsewhere, but Duffen insists he has no intention of letting the South American move on anytime soon.

Fantastic signing

"The signing of Geovanni has been an absolute result for us and to have a player like him at Hull City is fantastic for the club" Duffen told the Hull Daily Mail. "The results he has been able to create since he has been at the club have been fabulous. "We are determined to make sure he stays with us. "He is one of those players that you think can score whenever he picks the ball up and turns towards goal. "I thought something may happen when he got the ball at the Emirates and again on Sunday against Spurs. "The goalkeeper just watched it fly in to the net to his right because there was nothing he could do about it."
