United keeper keen to find regular action

Ben Foster admits he may need to go out on loan in order to prove himself to Sir Alex Ferguson. The highly-rated Manchester United keeper also believes a move away from Old Trafford could help him force his way back into the England fold. Despite having impressed on the rare outings he has been awarded with the Red Devils, Foster has seen his progress hampered by injury. Knee and ankle ligament problems have seen him remain behind Edwin van der Sar in the United pecking order, while David James appears to have made the England No.1 jersey his own. However, having enjoyed two productive loan spells with Watford in the past, the 25-year-old is aware of the benefits which can be gained from short-term deals away from United. "I want to be playing football, that's the main thing for me," Foster told the Manchester Evening News.

"As a goalkeeper at my age now, that's when I need to be kicking on. "I need to get more games under my belt. "The two years at Watford were fantastic for me to be able to play week in, week out and be No.1. "I'm not sure what the gaffer is thinking. If he wants to send me out on loan, it's up to him, but I want to kick on here." Ferguson is unwilling to let Foster leave on a permanent basis but is likely to find plenty of takers for a loan deal. Championship side Nottingham Forest enquired about Foster earlier in the year and may reignite their interest, but the Red Devils are likely to favour a deal with a top flight outfit.
