New Poland football boss believes Germany could step in to help stage Euro 2012 if needed

New Poland football federation president Grzegorz Lato believes Germany could step in to co-host Euro 2012 if the Ukraine pulled out. Lato, who was the top scorer at the 1974 World Cup, has elected on Thursday as his country's top official overseeing the run-up to Poland's first ever hosting of the European championships. But co-hosts Ukraine's participation seemed in doubt when Euro 2012 tournament organiser Evgeny Villinsky was reported as saying earlier in the day that financial problems had meant the country's preparations had come to a halt. When asked what could happen should Ukraine be unable to honour their original commitment, Lato told Polish television: "Germany could join it (the plan to organise Euro 2012." He also added that Poland would be able to organise the tournament by themselves, although he expressed his hope that "Ukraine would be able to finish the preparations in time."
