Redknapp reveals half-time instructions to Spurs' match-winner

Harry Redknapp has revealed his instructions to match-winner Roman Pavlyuchenko were to 'run about'. The new Tottenham manager ended his amazing first week in charge with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Liverpool to end the Anfield outfit's unbeaten start to the season. Dirk Kuyt fired the visitors in front with just three minutes on the clock and Rafa Benitez's men missed several opportunities to put the match beyond doubt. Spurs, who memorably came back from 3-1 and 4-2 down to draw at Arsenal in midweek, hauled themselves level through Jamie Carragher's own goal. And with time running out half-time substitute Pavlyuchenko turned home Darren Bent's low cross at the near post to lift the White Hart Lane club off the foot of the table. Redknapp, who appears to have brought the Midas touch to White Hart Lane after seven points from his first three games in charge, admitted he only gave the Russian limited pointers. He said: "Roman has got an interpreter. I just said to him at half-time 'just run about'. That's the truth. "I can't claim to be tactically cleverer than that. That's all I said to him. To put himself about a bit. If he could. Please."

Amazing

Redknapp's surprise appointment as Juande Ramos' replacement last weekend shocked football, and the former Portsmouth boss admitted the last seven days had been something of a rollercoaster. He said "It's never a dull moment in my life, that seems to be the way it is. This week has been more of the same - it's been an amazing week." He added: "It was a difficult game against such a good side. They're hard to play against, closing the space down. "In the first half we couldn't get the ball to Vedran Corluka, who was playing in the hole, because they fill up that midfield so well. "The only way to pass was back to our centre halves. We decided to change it at half-time and play with two strikers and be more direct. "In the second half we rode our luck. We kept going and when that happens you get your rewards. "I said to the players at half-time that we had that ability to score. "When Liverpool are in front it's very hard to get anything out of them. So I tried to put some belief into the lads and told them to keep going."
