Barnsley boss thrilled to clinch victory over Burnley
Barnsley manager Simon Davey was left to reflect on a "Jekyll and Hyde" performance after seeing his side squeak to a 3-2 win over Burnley.
Jon Macken's strike gave the Tykes the lead at the break before second-half goals from Simon Whaley and Diego Leon appeared to have given the hosts an unassailable advantage.
Martin Paterson notched his fourth and fifth league goals of the season for the visitors but they proved nothing but a consolation as the home side hung on.
Davey was delighted with his side's victory especially as they had been beaten by Preston just 48 hours earlier.
"That's what you get when you play two games in three days, you get a Jekyll and Hyde performance," he said.
"I said to the players before the game that the first 20 minutes is crucial, because if you do well in the first 20 then you don't feel tired.
"We had to juggle thinks around in the first 10 minutes to combat the Burnley system because they're a good side and then we got in front and went three up.
"We had a spell in the second half were we lost our concentration and gave a goal away and then we went on the back foot. And there was only one team who were going to get back in it and that was Burnley and a lot of credit has to go to them."
Davey revealed that he understood why Burnley manager Owen Coyle felt aggrieved after the referee and linesman allowed Whaley's goal to stand despite it being clearly offside.
Important
"Yes it was a dubious decision and looking at the replay I can see why Owen is upset because he was offside but that happens," added Davey.
"But we've had the rub of the green and the most important thing is that we got the three points."
His opposite number Coyle declared it had been "one of my worst weeks in football" after the Burnley boss found himself criticising the performance of match officials for the second time in as many days.
"The lad took the shot and I knew during the game and I've seen it on the TV replays just now," he said.
"The replays show he was two yards in advance of our back line and it hit (Kayode) Odejayi's arm as he put it in and you can't say he not interfering with play.
"It's just a bad decision and I asked at the time the fourth official to ask the linesman who was playing him on. And the answer I got was that his view was obscured by Burnley players but there were no Burnley players in sight of that line.
"It's a hard one to take because we certainly merited a result out of that game."
