Chile's all-time leading international goalscorer Marcelo Salas is retiring from football.
The 33-year-old scored 37 goals in 70 appearances for Chile, including two against Uruguay in a 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw in November 2007.
Salas spent five seasons in Italy with Lazio and Juventus between 1998 and 2003, before joining Argentine club River Plate for a second spell.
He has spent the last four years with native club Universidad de Chile, where he started his career.
"Marcelo played his last professional match last Sunday," said Universidad president Federico Valdes.
Salas made his debut for Universidad in 1993 before moving to River Plate three years later.
Along with Ivan Zamorano, Salas was instrumental in helping Chile reach the second round of the 1998 World Cup.
