Ajax, De Graafschap, ADO Den Haag, FC Utrecht and Heerenveen all triumphed on a day of five away victories in the Eredivisie.
Ajax were forced to come from behind to claim victory over bottom club
FC Volendam to move back into second place in the table.
Gerson Sheotahul gave the hosts a shock lead in the 41st minute only for Luis Suarez to level for the Amsterdam outfit before the interval.
And Jan Vertonghen struck midway through the second half as Ajax cut the gap on leaders AZ Alkmaar to three points.
Struggling
De Graafschap secured their first away win of the season with an impressive 3-1 triumph against
Feyenoord.
Jason Oost gave the visitors the perfect start with only 11 minutes on the clock before Geert Den Ouden's second-half brace (49 and 69) silenced the De Kuip Stadion.
Kevin Hofland pulled one back for Feyenoord 11 minutes from the end but it was nothing more than a consolation.
Shock
ADO Den Haag were another lowly side to record a shock victory on their travels as they overcame high-flying
NAC Breda 4-0.
Rick Hoogendorp's ninth-minute goal put the visitors in control before Richard Knopper doubled their advantage 21 minutes from the end.
Knopper claimed his second in the 80th minute before Karim Soltani completed the rout before the final whistle.
Cedric van der Gun grabbed a late brace as
FC Utrecht came from behind to snatch all three points away to
NEC Breda.
Said Ntivazonkisa beat Michel Vorm to open the scoring in the 33rd minute before Van der Gun's double (78 and 89) turned the match on its head.
Heerenveen climbed to seventh in the table thanks to their 3-1 win away to
Willem II, who slip to 10th in the standings.
Arnor Smarason's goal just before the interval put Heerenveen in front before Frank Demouge levelled for the hosts.
Christian Grindheim restored Heerenveen's advantage and Mika Vayrynen sealed victory in the dying seconds.
